A Year of 30 Updates!

I’ve been adding items to my Year of 30 list (original post here) and wanted to create a new post with my updates! Progress takes time, but I will be using this post to share some images I created (which can also be found on my Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter accounts) and write a little about some of the experiences.

Without further ado and in chronological order, let’s start the post!

  1. Give up social media for Lent.
  2. Attend a Spring Training game. Seeing the Phillies beat the Yankees sort of made up for losing the World Series in 2009. Someone in our group even caught a foul ball!
  3. Go on a cruise to the Caribbean. To me, cruising is the epitome of a vacation – you’re completely cut off from work obligations and you can do as little or as much as you want. You wake up and are at sea or docked in a beautiful new land. Cruising with friends made this trip that much more enjoyable! (Getting my land legs back, however, was not fun.)
  4. Make it out of an escape room in less than an hour. Escape rooms are becoming very popular, so if you haven’t tried one or even heard of them, there’s likely an escape room available somewhere near you! You and a group of friends/family/strangers are “locked” in a room and must work together and solve clues to “escape.” The real challenge is solving all the clues, solving all the tasks, and escaping in less than hour!
  5. Have a picnic in the park. My boyfriend and I enjoyed some wine and delicious Puerto Rican food while we listened to a free concert given by The Florida Orchestra at a local park.
  6. Learn how to make chicken adobo. I’ve made this a few times now, and have become pretty proud of it!

  1. Get my wisdom teeth extracted. It had to be done! Luckily, I only developed two wisdom teeth, and they were the ones easier to extract – the ones up top. I went with local anesthesia and the recovery time wasn’t too bad.
  2. Attend the Navy vs. Notre Dame football game. My boyfriend is a Notre Dame alum, but my grandfather is a Naval Academy alum, so for one game a year I cheer against the Fighting Irish. (Sorry, babe.)
  3. Go on a personal trip to Hawaii. I won’t talk about it much anywhere on my blog, but the trip to Hawaii was more for a personal reason than it was a vacation (though that aspect didn’t hurt). I’m glad I made the trip!
  4. Vote for president. Read about why this was a big deal here.
  5. Visit and explore San Francisco. Our friends Julian and Vanessa were kind enough to host my boyfriend and me for nearly two weeks. The city definitely has my heart!
  6. Check out the Disney Food & Wine Festival. Favorite dish? Tuna poke, from the Hawaiian kiosk.

  1. Visit a National Park during the NPS Centennial. This year, I got to see not one but two parks: Pearl Harbor (HI) and Alcatraz Island (CA).
  2. Wine & cheese tasting in Napa. It was my second time in Napa, but this time our group visited new wineries and got to experience a wine and cheese tasting at Far Niente.
  3. Cheer during my alma mater’s first bowl game. Old Dominion University went to its first-ever bowl game, the Popeyes Bahamas Bowl. I’m happy to say that the Monarchs won!
  4. Attend my first hockey game. I saw the Atlanta Gladiators, a minor league team, play (and ultimately lose to) the Florida Everglades. I’m hooked – hockey is fun!
  5. Go on a ghost tour. I love going on ghost tours when I’m visiting a new city. I think they give a really different kind of history lesson of the city. This one was in Honolulu.
  6. Try a new food. I tried a Spanish dessert called turrón and am officially addicted!

  1. See a blowhole. While on my trip to Hawaii, I got to see a blowhole (aptly nicknamed Dragon’s Nostrils) up close and personal!
  2. Cross-stitch. Cross-stitching is a hobby of mine, and I love giving my projects as gifts. So far this year, I’ve worked on around 5 projects!
  3. Go ziplining. I’m not much of an adrenaline junkie (and I’m usually terrified of heights), but I LOVE ziplining!
  4. Swim in a cenote. A cenote is a natural pit filled with groundwater, and I got to swim in one! After an adventurous few hours of ziplining, the cool water was a welcome reprieve.
  5. Read 30 books. Reading is another one of my hobbies, and I made it my goal to read more!
  6. Attend a concert. I treated my wonderful boyfriend to Game of Thrones Live tickets for his own 30th birthday, and we had an amazing time.

  1. Treat myself to a mani/pedi. I occasionally treat myself to a manicure, but every once in a while it’s nice to get both a manicure and a pedicure.
  2. Walk the Golden Gate Bridge.
  3. Take a free online course. Linguistics has always been fascinating to me, so I enrolled in a free class on Coursera.
  4. File my tax return on time.
  5. Go on a brewery tour. Cigar City Brewery in Tampa, FL, offers a great tour – and very good beer!
  6. Get a 30-day streak on Duolingo. I’ve been trying to learn Spanish off and on for a couple of years now but I’m trying to really commit! Duolingo is a great (and free!) resource.
